This year the dates of the exhibition were shifted so that the show began in the same year to which the award applied.
Ivor Hele won for the fifth time in seven years. He donated his winning self-portrait to the Gallery, and the Gallery also bought William Dobell’s portrait of writer Mary Gilmore.
