The subject of this portrait is Peter Lorimer (born 1924). After serving as a pilot in the Second World War, Lorimer worked for a small commercial fishing company based in Sydney, where he lived on a boat on the harbour. He attended painting classes run by his old school friend Graeme Inson, who asked if Lorimer would sit for him. There were three to four live sittings and Lorimer provided the fishing-related objects depicted in the painting.
