Intermediate calligraphy course Four-workshop series with Xueyi Bai
In this series of four workshops for intermediate students, Xueyi Bai will help you develop your calligraphy practice.
Calligraphy is traditionally said to be like meditation, quieting the heart and calming the mind by moving its qi or energy in rhythm with the movement of the brush. Its aesthetic principles of yin and yang are considered to be the same ones that guide the natural world.
Over four workshops, you will refine your technique for the eight basic strokes and develop your understanding of structure and balance, discovering how the basic strokes can change to harmonise with each other and the surrounding space. Using this, you will complete some phrases on mounted rice paper to bring home at the end of the course.
