Ashley Frost Escarpment forest

oil on board

40.7 x 40.7 cm

In this painting, I wanted to capture the native angophora trees on the Wodi Wodi walking track near Stanwell Park. The track is named after the original custodians of the land in the Illawarra in NSW and can be found on an escarpment containing the most extensive area of rainforest in the Sydney basin. The area acts as an important refuge for species that are affected by environmental disturbances such as development and bushfires. The 500-metre-high escarpment provides a dramatic backdrop to my local town of Thirroul and spans 200 million years of geological history.
