Eliza Gosse Spoonfuls of Milo at Kosciuszko

Inspired by a recent trip to Thredbo, my painting depicts Harry Seidler’s 1963 ski lodge. My paintings typically depict suburban architecture from the mid century with the use of flat planes of colour, clean geometric forms and a nostalgic inflection. The lodge was the first house I’ve been able to visit and draw in person since the restrictions, so I wanted it to stand isolated, enveloped by trees, the mountain all to itself. I’ve never been inside the house, but like to imagine through my titles what the occupants are doing. A day of skiing, undies wet and noses red, shovelling Milo into hot milk, huddled by a fire.
