Lucy Culliton Gunningrah, Bottom Bullock

oil on canvas

183 x 183 cm; 186 x 186 cm framed

Bottom Bullock is the name of the paddock on a property on the Monaro, southern NSW. I have been making a series of paintings of the ponds on Charlie Maslin’s farm. He has slowed the watercourse with leaky weirs, creating ponds with reeds and grasses. We have been in drought the past few years and I want to show the positive work that’s being done.

I painted a study by the creek while Charlie flew his drone, taking photos in the smoke of the bushfires. Back in the comfort of my studio I made this larger painting from the study.
