Marisa Purcell Liquidity

Appearing to float on their raw linen surface, the veils of transparent colour that comprise Liquidity fade in and out of view. At times, they are barely perceptible, heightening our awareness of the act of looking. A space is created in this painting that beckons the viewer to lean in closer, and, in this way, the work celebrates activity in a medium traditionally known to be flat and still. This invites questions about the way that we see, and about our fragile understanding of certainty and truth.
