Jessica Nothdurft Dooee

acrylic and oil on wood

80 x 80 cm

Dooee is wearing her house dress from Best & Less, which he bought her because it was cheap and practical. He’s wearing his Jackie Howe singlet, green footy shorts, and cheap rubber thongs from Big W. He dominates Dooee, and hides his hostility behind his hood of anonymity, yet maintains a friendly facade.

This autobiographical work stems from my childhood relationship with my parents. My faux-naive style and [use of] ice-cream pink acknowledge these juvenescent origins in tension with my adult self, who sees my parents isolated and alone. Complicating the scene further, I have painted Dooee as myself.
