Katherine Hattam Pink boatshed

collaged book pages, charcoal and gouache on linen

200 x 150.5 cm

Pink boatshed depicts an actual shed on Sydney Harbour, exactly where I now forget. What interests me is not the literal spot, but the merging of the world inside my head and the one outside it.

Young people sit with their legs hanging over the edge of a pink boatshed. Painted over a grid of pages from a book, this scene is viewed from a room in another building, across a table and between curtains (pinched from Sidney Nolan). On the walls, there is art that is important to me. The floor references a window at my sister’s house. Nothing is what it seems.
