oil stick on linen

106.5 x 91.8 cm

This image depicts a stick-up. Two young boys running a successful lemonade stand in their suburban street are at odds with another child, who points a stick shaped like a gun directly at them. The entrepreneurs know that the stick is not a real gun, but they don’t want to take any chances. While seemingly sinister in its portrayal of an early adoption of capitalism, violence and wealth disparity, the work’s playful and vibrant application encourages a more innocent interpretation.
