Matthew Clarke Self-portrait: lost in Paddington
acrylic on canvas
122 x 91.2 cm
My painting Self-portrait: lost in Paddington captures a moment in time where I am hailing a taxi, because I am lost in a new environment. I am swinging between being excited about being there and being anxious about being lost; excitement wins and the beginning of the painting is formed in my brain. I am proud of the fiery brushstrokes in this work. Every window in the building represents a little unknown story. This painting is one in a long-running series about being lost in Australian cities.
