Grogans is a pub in the heart of Dublin in Ireland where you can hide in a nook whilst enjoying a pint and a cheese toastie. It is where I first began to paint in pubs. The ebb and flow of people coming and going, the sudden madness then stillness unfold while I’m moving paint around. The conversations I have with locals and fleeting moments are all absorbed into the work. As an observer and a painter, I’m constantly learning about the human condition. There’s no better place to do that than in a pub. It has no frills and, in an ever-changing world, it can be a source of comfort and solace.
