Ashley Frost Internal meanderings

oil on 30 boards

102 x 85.3 cm

I am looking for an intrinsic harmony within the tactile absurdity of excessive paint. The drive to create this series of abstract paintings is a response to our current epoch. In a personal sense, the paintings help me to work things out in a highly disrupted world. The paintings and the painting process help transcend the current over-saturation of news feeds, threats of conflict, and ever-growing pandemic statistics.

The title is a quote from Mary Gabriel’s book Ninth street women, where she says the postwar abstract expressionist artists’ response to a highly disrupted world was to ‘strip the artwork of all life except for their own internal meanderings’.
