Alan Jones Painting 262 (Beechwood Parade)

acrylic on board

104 x 113 cm

My family moved to Cherrybrook, New South Wales in 1982. Cherrybrook then was mostly virgin bushland and grass paddocks with a few scattered houses. During the 1980s, houses were being built there every day. Many of them looked the same, often just a slight variation on the house across the road. Growing up in suburbia, the relentless repetition inevitably became a comforting familiarity. This particular house on Beechwood Parade was one of the first to be built in Cherrybrook. It used to belong to our good friends, the Fishers. We spent much of our time there as kids.
