Lucy Culliton Pigeons

oil on canvas

148.5 x 148.5 cm

My work is as an artist. The other job that keeps me pretty busy is animal rescue. This is a painting of a flock of my pigeons. I used to have 11, then an old fellow down the coast died and his wife didn’t want his pigeons. She said to me, ‘Take the ones you want; the rest will go to Mogo Zoo for animal food.’ So two trips later, I had brought all 250 of their birds to live at my house. These are the ordinary grey ones.

I am currently painting all my animals. I still have a flock of sheep, three cows, horses, chooks and ducks to go.
