Andrew Sibley Merilyn Peddell

This portrait by Andrew Sibley of lawn bowler Merilyn Peddell was a finalist in the Daily Telegraph Sporting Portrait Prize, held in conjunction with the Archibald Prize 2000.

Peddell is a champion bower. Her many awards include gold medals at the 1996 World Championship, the 1997 Asia Pacific Championships and the 1998 Trans Tasman Championship along with a silver medal at the 1999 Commonwealth Games.

Sibley was born in England in 1933, coming to Australia in 1948. He studied at the Gravesend School of Art then at the Royal College of Arts in London. He has been a regular exhibitor in the Archibald Prize.
