Bryan Westwood Self-portrait with memories

The figures in this self-portrait are, according Bryan Westwood, plucked from the memory bank, that part of the mind here people keep significant moments.

Likening the memory to a coral formation, the artist says: 'I have been working on a long piece of writing – a kind of biography of someone else – and it occurred to me that all the people and things and bits which have been appearing in this biography are all part of the essence of the self, and that essence consists of vitally remembered things from the past which live and grow much as coral does.’
