This portrait of Zelman Cowen (1919–2011) by Andrew Sibley was commissioned by the Victorian Bar and is now in its portrait collection at the Peter O’Callaghan QC Gallery.

A leading constitutional lawyer, Cowen held numerous positions during a distinguished career, including at the University of Melbourne; the University of New England in Armidale, NSW; the University of Queensland; and Oriel College, Oxford. He was knighted when appointed Governor General of Australia, a role he held from 1977 to 1982.
