This portrait by Dora Toovey of Arthur Roden Cutler (1916–2002) is now in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra. During the Second World War, Cutler served as a lieutenant in the Royal Australian Artillery in Syria in 1941, for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He later became a diplomat and governor of NSW.
This is one of two portraits of Culter in the 1943 Archibald Prize; the other is by Henry Hanke.
