Ernest Buckmaster Rev Canon ES Hughes

This portrait by Ernest Buckmaster of clergyman and sportsman Ernest Hughes (1860–1942) is now in the collection of the State Library Victoria. Hughes was a leading figure in the Anglican church in Victoria. He was also a rower and a boxer and played Australian Rules football for St Kilda then Essendon, winning four premierships. In 1932, he would be elected president of the Victorian Cricket Association.
