This portrait by Reginald Jerrold-Nathan of lawyer and politician Thomas Rainsford Bavin (1874–1941) is now in the University Art Collection in the Chau Chak Wing Museum at The University of Sydney.

Following studies at London’s Royal Academy under John Singer Sargent and William Orpen, Jerrold-Nathan was an established portrait painter when he arrived in Sydney in 1924. Having painted members of the royal families of England, Denmark and Iraq, he was well-received in Sydney society.

The painting is one of 76 works by Jerrold-Nathan shown in the Archibald between 1926 and 1972.
