Unknown artist (Charles McCarthy)

Although there are no official records for this portrait, including the name of the artist, an article about the Archibald Prize 1921 exhibition in Table Talk of 26 January 1922 refers to 'a ghastly perpetration in a flake white and ashes, labelled “Dr Charles McCarthy, painter, physician and musician”’.

It may be a separate portrait by any one of the 25 artists currently listed in the prizes archive for the 2021 Archibald Prize exhibition or it may refer to one of the unidentified subjects in portraits by Mary Cecil Allen, George Bell, Clewin Harcourt, Polly Hurry, Frank Latimer, Stanley Lloyd and William Macleod.
