Harry Bromilow Harrison WP Hurst

oil

The subject of this portrait by Harry Bromilow Harrison is William Peter Hurst (born 1873), editor of The Australasian, a weekly newspaper published by Argus. An article in that paper on 28 January 1922 said about the painting: ‘An interesting portrait is Mr HB Harrison’s study of Mr WP Hurst. He is seen seated at a writing-table, pen in hand, a softly tinted old rose curtain hangs near, and there are some nice misty-blue shadows in the background. The face and eyes are drawn with skill, and friends of the sitter declare it to be an excellent likeness.’
