We acknowledge the Gadigal of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of the Country on which the Art Gallery of New South Wales stands.

What you need to know before visiting

The Art Gallery of New South Wales has two art museum buildings in the Domain overlooking Sydney Harbour on Gadigal Country. These have been given Sydney Aboriginal language names.

Naala Nura, which means ‘seeing Country’, is our historic building on the south part of the site.

Naala Badu, which means ‘seeing waters’, is our new building on the north part of the site.

The Art Gallery also manages the Brett Whiteley Studio in Surry Hills.

  • Free entry and tickets

Entry is free and tickets are not required for the Art Gallery or the Brett Whiteley Studio, and most displays, exhibitions and events.

Tickets are required for a few exhibitions and events. Some of these may have charges, and occasionally exhibitions may have timed entry.

For details, including any ticketing or charges, see What’s on for current and upcoming exhibitions plus information on events and programs.

Note: the Tank on lower level 4 of Naala Badu, the Art Gallery’s north building, can currently only be accessed with a ticket to the exhibition Louise Bourgeois: Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day?

  • Health and wellbeing

The health and wellbeing of our visitors, members, staff and volunteers is our priority, and we are always guided by the NSW Government’s health guidelines.

Face masks are welcome when visiting the Art Gallery or Brett Whiteley Studio, and we ask you not to visit if you’re unwell.
