Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan have created a new sculpture – a wonderous cardboard city in the sky – for the exhibition Dreamhome: Stories of Art and Shelter.

Living between the Philippines and Australia, the artists have drawn on their own story of migration to forge an art practice dedicated to understanding the shifting, varied and often complicated meanings of home. They are inspired by the power of collective action and create spaces where people can come together through a process of art-making.

The Aquilizan Studio: Making it Home invites selected school and community groups to participate in workshops and create their own cardboard dream home. There are also opportunities for Art Gallery visitors to participate in workshops.

Some of the constructions made in the workshops are displayed as part of the Aquilizans’ sculpture in the Dreamhome exhibition in the new North Building, with many others exhibited in the studio space on lower level 2 in the South Building.
