I am concerned by the declining stature of the culturally significant Queen Victoria building in the development of contemporary Sydney. My body of work explores this relationship symbolically by using linoleum blocks as a stable and reliable material, intricately carved to represent the building’s attributes. The colonial achievements of the city, seen through the architectural beauty of the era, are being overshadowed by the changing skyline of Sydney’s central business district. My work warns of the ultimate demise of culturally significant sites and is a call to action to maintain Sydney’s historical identity.
